FromThe St. Louis Post Dispatch...
The Census Bureau is setting up shop in the area to begin work on its official population count, a ritual that happens every 10 years. By the end of the month 150 census offices will be open and operational across the country.
The St. Louis area has a 7.9% unemployment rate meaning about 100,000 people are looking for jobs. St. Louis Mayor, Francis Slay, said "In this economy, the (census) jobs will be very welcome". In the past the Census Bureau ahs relied on college students, retirees and stay-at-home moms to fill the jobs however this time around, the recruiters expect to see a crush of laid-off workers filling out applications.
